RE"OLUTION REQUESTING THE AID OF THE
STATE OF CALIFORNIA IN THE IlqPROVP,,MENT
OF OCEAN AVENUE THROUGH THE CITY OF
HUNTINGTON BEACH.
?WHEREAS that certain State Highway eommomly
known as the "Ocean Boulevard" passes through the City of
Huntington Beach immediately along the ocean front of said
city, and
aIMER.EAS there is within se!0 City of Huntington
Beach approximately four miles of State Highway, and
"WHEREAS the said City of Huntington Beach has
heretofore expended in excess of Three Hundred Thousand
Dollars on the improvement and pavement of this highway with-
in said city, and
WFLRE'AS a portain of approximately one mile of
said highway has been so paved by the City to a width of
eighty feet and the balance of said highway has been paved
to a width of twenty feet, . and
'YHEREAS the State of California has caused the
said State Highway immediately outside of said City of Hun-
tington Beach to be paved to a width of thirty feet and it
is the desire of both the said City of Huntington Beach and
the said State of California to widen the balance of said
highway, within said city to a minimum width of 40 feet , and
"'HEREAS the said city is unable financially to bear
the entire expense of widening, the pavement of said high-
way in the unsettled portion of said city where said high-
way now consists of a twenty foot pavement, and
'OIN9 THEEREFOR;E, the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach does hereby resolve that it would be in
keeping with the general attitude of the Highway Department
of the State of California to aid and assist financially
and otherwise in the widening of the twenty foot pavement
of. the State Highway within said city, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Hunting-
ton Beach does hereby appeal to the Department of Highways
of the State of California for financial assistance for
the above mentioned purpose.
This app`!ico,,tion is made for the reason that the
City Council feels that said State Highway is of more than
local benefit and that the demand for the increased width
of said highway has been created by through state traffic;
that more than 75% of the traffic on said highwPy is traffic
passing directly through the city and of no benefit there-
to.
THEREFORE, this application is made to the State
Highway Department of the State of California asking that
they bear 5011; of the expense of widening the twenty foot
strip of pavement within said city which pavement is a part
of the major highways of the State of California.
AND, the said City of Huntington Beach, likewise ,
hereby makes appeal to the Board of Supervisors of the County

of Orange, that said County bear 25% of the said expense,
and
FURTHER declares that if the State of California
and the County of Orange contribute to the expense of this
undertaking in the proportions mentioned above, that the
City of Huntington Beach can and will defray the balance
of the cost of the undertaking.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the
City of Huntington Beach this 5th day of January, 1231.
