The City Co>>ncil of the City of Huntington Beach do resolve as follows: Section 1: That at the Special Election heretofore called to be held at said City of. Huntington Beach, California on the 3rd day of August , 1937, there be submitted to the qualified voters of said City the proposition of the adoption of an ordirl4nce of said City of Huntington Beach, California entitled and. in -wOrd4---nnd fI ures as follows: "ORDINANCE NO. "Are 07MINANCE -OF TFZ CITY of HUNTINGTON BEACH DECIARING THAT THE. OFrICE OF CHIEF OF POLICE SMA1,L BE ELECTIVE. "The People of the City of Huntington Beach do ordain as follow, "Section 1: That the office of Chief of Police of the City of Huntington Beach shall hereafter be elective, and said officer shall be elected from the City at large for the term provided in section 17 of Article VII of the Charter of the City of Huntington Beach. The City Council shall set the compensation Of said officer at not lees than the amount paid said officer during the preceding year. "Section 2: If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be unconsti- tutional, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance. The People of the City of Huntington Beach hereby declare they would have passed this ordinance and each section, subsection, sentenoe, clause and phrase hereof irrespective of the fact that any one or more sections , subsections, sentences, clauses or phrases hereof be declared unconstitutional. "Section 3: The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News, a weekly newspaper printed, published and circulated in said City of Huntington Beach, and this ordinance shall take effect and be in force in accordance with the statutes applicable thereto and said t officer shall be elected at a special election held within the time provided for by law. "Passed and adopted on the day of Section 2; That the City Clerk is hereby directed and instructed to publish said proposed ordi-1ance in the Huntingtn n Beach News, a newspaper of general circulation printed and nubllshed in the City of Huntington Beach on the 17th day of June , 10,37• Section 3: Said ordinance shall be submitted to the voters at the special election held on the 3rd day of August , 1937, under the following proposition; PROPOSITION NO. 2 SHALL THE ORDINANCE, DING THE CHIEF OF POLICE ELECTIVE AND PROHIBITING REDUCTION IN Yes COMPENSATION FROM THE AMOUNT PAID SAID OFFICER DURING THE PRECEDVIG YEAR, BE ADOPTED?
