HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1325 RESOLUTION No. 1325 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUBMITTING A PROPOSITION TO THE VOTERS FOR THE ADOPT- ION OF AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO THE SALARY OF CITY COUNCIN WHEREAS, the people of the City of Huntington Beach cic, by Ordinance No. 317, which is now codified as Sec- tion 1121 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code , fixed' .the compensation of members of the City Council at $50.00 per month, said ordinance having been adopted by the qualified voters of said city at a General Municipal Election held on the 9th day of April, 1928; and WHEREAS, said compensation for the members of the City Council has not been changed, and the time necessary to be devoted toy and the expense incidental to the work of the City Council has materially increased; and WHEREAS, the City of Hun.tington_Beach has not only increased tremendously in area, but also in population, and the time necessary for the City Councilmen to devote to city business has materially increased; and WHEREAS, in- order to change the compensation of the City Council, it will be necessary to submit the proposit- ion to the qualified voters of said city: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of \ 1. r RES. 1325 the City of Huntington Beach that at the General Municipal Election to be held in the City of Huntington Beach on April 8th, 1958, there shall be submitted to the qualified elect- ors of said city, a proposition to adopt an ordinance amend- ing Section 1121 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code to fix the compensation of each member of the City Council of said city, in the sum of $ 100s00 per month. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ordinance submitted to the voters shall read in words and figures, as follows: ORDINANCE No. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH RELATING TO THE COMPENSATION OF MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL AMENDING SECTION 1121 OF THE HUNTING'ION BEACH ORDINANCE CODE. The People of the City of Huntington Beach do ordain as follows: Section 1. That Section 1121 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code be and the same is hereby amended to read in words and figures, as follows : Section 1121. Compensation of City Councilmen: Each member of the City Council, regularly serv- ing in that capacity, on and after the canvass of the ballots at the General Municipal Election to be held in April, 1960, shall receive, as full compensation for the services rendeied by 2. 1 i RWo. Ito. 1325 him in his official capacity as such, the sum of $ 100.00 per month. Section 2: The City Clerk Shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause the same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News,' a weekly newspaper pub- lished, printed and circulated in the City of Huntington Beach, Orange County, California, and this ordinance shall take effect and be in force at the time provided by law. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and he is hereby instructed to cause the proposition for the adoption of said ordinance to be printed on the ballot to be used at the General Municipal Election of April 8th, 1958, and that said proposition be punted on the ballot in substantially the following form: "SHALL THE ORDINANCE FIXING THE MONTHLY COMPENSATION AT THE R. TE OF $10U.0© PER MONTH FOR EACH MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL YES SERVING IN THAT CAPACITY AFTER THE CANVASS OF THE BALLOTS OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION, IN APRIL, 196o, BE ADOPTED?tt NO PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City RE.9C1- SO- 1325 of Huntington Beach, California, at a regular adjourned meeting held ,on the 23rd day of December, 19v. 0 ,- y victor 'q ,x Mayor ATTEST 011 City Clerk RESO. HENRICKSEN, the duly elected, qualified and acting City Clerk of the City of Huntington Beach, and ex-officio Clerk of the City Council of said City, do hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach is five; that the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of more than a majority of all the members of said City Council at a regular meeting thereof held on the 23rd day of December , 1957, by the following vote : AYES: Councilmen: Irby, Bryant, Lockett, Bartlett, Terry.
