HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1364 RESOLUTION No. 1364 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUN'TINGTO T BEACH, CALIFORNIA 7 SETTING .FORTH THE POSITION OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTO T BEACH WITH REGARD TO THE PACIFIC-SOUTRWST LOCAL SERVICE CASE, DOCKET NO. 564-5 ET AL.9 BEFORE THE CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD. iHEREA,S? the City of Huntington Beach is a municipal corporation situated in Orange County a California; and HEREASI the City of Huntington Beach has experienced a large growth in population and area in the last few yearsq having increased from 5,258 in 1950 to approximately 11$000 in 1959; and WHEREAS, the area of Huntington Beach has increased with- in the last few years from approximately five square miles to approximately twenty three square miles and the area re- cently annexed is now being developed for industry and homes; and WHEREAS,, the economic and industrial future for Hunting- ton Beach is most favorable and optomistic; and WHEREAS, by reason of the tremendous recent development in residential and industrial construction in the City of Huntington Beach, the economic growth of the area indicates a need for adequate air service to satisfy the travel require- me nts of the residential' business and industrial population; and. r 1. Res. No. 1364 WHEREAS, the Long Beach Municipal airport is located ap- proximately 14 miles from the City of Huntington Beach,with an estimated driving time of 25 minutes and said airport is the most accessible major airport for the use of the resi- dents and business men of this city and the neighboring area; NOW TH I&FORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beech resolves as followss Section 1. That by reason of the rapid growth in popu•» lation, business and industry in the City of Huntington. Beach and surrounding areas in Orange County, California, and by reason of the community of interest between this area and certain other cities in California and Nevada, that the needs and convenience of the traveling public require that this area of dynamic growth be provided with new and improved scheduled airline service at the Long Beach Municipal Airport. That the bong Beach Municipal airport, as the closest and most convenient major airport to the residents and businessmen of the City of Huntington Beach, should be certificated as a terminal.'or h.termediate point for any new and improved scheduled airline service which should result from the pro- ceedings in the Pacific-Southwest Vocal Service Case, Docket 5645 et al., before the Civil Aeronautics Board, Section 2, The adoption by the City Council of this resolution is not to be construed as favoring or endorsing 2, Res. No 1364 the application of any specific airline in this proceeding. i The interest of the City of Huntington. Beach is to assist the Civil Aeronautics Board in its determination of the need for new and improved scheduled airline service between. the Long Beach Municipal Airport and certain other cities in California and Nevada.
