A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTINGTON BEACH RESCINDING FREEWAY AGREE-
DENT RELATING TO ROUTE 60 FREEWAY.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Hunt-
ington Beach, California, as follows:
WHEREAS, the City of Huntington Beach feels that its
best interests are not being considered and will not be
served by the construction of a portion of a freeway between
the Santa Ana River and First Street in the City of Hunting-
ton Beach; and
WHEREAS, the present route adopted at the insistence of
the Division of Highways, precludes access and egress from
the highly desirable beachfront recreational area; and
WHEREAS, engineering studies of the Division of Highways
have not shown definitely their recommendations for the
final alignment of a freeway route parallel to the coast
line and have not established a freeway route on or parallel
to State Sign Route 39 and
WHEREAS, the proposed subject freeway is completely iso-
lated from the existing freeway system in Orange County and
is not a logical extension of any existing or proposed free-
way; and
WHEREAS, the construction of the subject freeway will not
now, nor in the future, serve the best interests of the
people of the City of Huntington Beach, nor the users of the

beach area;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the City
Council of the City of Huntington Beach hereby rescind their
action of January 12th, 1959,approving the adoption of the
freeway agreement relating to Route 60 freeway with the State
of California, acting by and through the Department of Public
Works, Division of Highways; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the C it y
of Huntington Beach hereby requests that the State Highway
Commission order the Division of Highways to suspend further
activity on this project.
