Res. No.1407 County to justify recognition of our County as a self-con- tained Standard Metropolitan Area; and WHEREAS, such studies as the Stanford Research Insti- tute Report on Orange County showed an increasingly larger percentage of our residents finding employment here, but probably not enough to meet the criteria of the Committee- on Standard Metropolitan Areas to justify recognition of our County as a separate Metropolitan Area at this time ; and WHEREAS, the nation-wide Census of Business conducted this year and the all-inclusive population census to be conducted in 1960 will probably show a higher percentage of our residents employed in Orange County; and WHEREAS, the Committee on Standard Metropolitan Areas should give recognition to Orange County in the meantime, while the census results are being tabulated; and WHEREAS, the adding of the name of Orange County as the third large economic unit in the Los Angeles County - Orange County area to the designation of the present Met- ropolitan Area, having it read "Los Angeles-Long Beach- Orange County metropolitan Area" would give well justified recognition to our County while we are waiting to be recog- nized as a separate and distinct Metropolitan Area; and WHEREAS, such designation of the present Metropolitan Area would place the name of Orange County near the top - of the list of Standard Metropolitan Areas, just below that of the New York Metropolitan Area; 2. No, 1407 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we , the members of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, Orange County, California, call upon the Committee of Standard Metropolitan Areas, Executive Office of the 'resident, Washington, D.
