HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1449 RESOLUTION No. 1449 A RESOLUTION OF THE, CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH RELATING TO THE FEDERAL INTERSTATE AND DEE'ENSK HIGH- WAY PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the continued growth and progress of the City of Huntington Beach, State of California, and the nation, as a whole, are dependent upon an adequate transportation system based primarily upon continued and expanded use of the motor vehicle; and WHEREAS, the basic transportation system in the City of Huntington Beach and the County of Orange is dependent upon the construction of vital segments of the interstate and defense highways such as the San Diego and Santa Ana Freeways; and WHEREAS, the present freeway construction program is based on the assumption that Federal Interstate financing will continue and assist in providing the necessary financ- ing to maintain the present rate of construction; and WHEREAS, on both the local and national levels, the interstate program ,is vitally necessary to keep up with highway transportation needs for our growing population; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City cf Hunting- ton Beach, in the interest of the general community and in order to assist in the development of the City of Huntington. 1. Res. No. 1449 Beach does hereby call upon all members of the Congress of the United States to take agressive and positive action to prevent enactment of legislation which would jeopardize the the existence of/Federal Interstate and Defense Highway Program by reducing the availability of Federal funds to the various States of the nation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk mail copies of this Resolution to the United States Senators from Calif- ornia, to the Congressmen representing this district and to all other interested persons PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City cf Huntington Beach, California, this 3rd day of January, 1961.
