HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1486 RESOLUTION No, 1486 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL CF THE CITY OF HUNTINGT ON BEACH TO AMEND THE MAYO-BREED FORMULA TO PROVIDE A MINIMUM cF 60% OF THE STATE HIGHWAY FUNDS TO THE SOUTH WHEREAS, true State highway needs for the Southern Counties based on the urgency of traffic demands and the provisions of equal State-wide traffic service , are in excess of the State-wide total; and WHEREAS, the existing critical traffic congestion, acci- dents and fatalities in the Southern area must be immediately alleviated; and I WHEREAS, the future economic and socialogical growth and development of the 13 Southern Counties is dependent on the construction of an adequate highway and freeway system; and WHEREAS, based on the pertinent indices of population, vehicle registration and assessed valuation, the 13 Southern Counties provide in excess of 60 percent of the State-wide highway revenue; and WHEREAS, the antiquated Mayo-Breed Formula allocates only 55 percent of the State-wide Highway and Freeway con- struction Funds to the South which curtails the budgeting of urgently needed projects and eliminates a program of equita- ble future facilities in this area; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Huntington Beach endorses a legislative program to amend the Mayo-Breed 1. Res. No.1486 Formula as proposed in Assembly Bill 1320 to provide a min- imum of 60 percent of the State Highway Construction Funds to the South.
