HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1514 RESOLUTION No. 1514 A RESOLUTION CF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH INVITING THE OWNERS OF THE ANGELS BASEBALL CLUB TO LOCATE THEIR A IIERICAN LEAGUE BASEBALL FRANCHISE IN ORANGE COUNTY WHEREAS, the Angels' Baseball Club is presently under contract only until 1964 and their President, Robert Reynolds, has indicated they may not wish to renew their present obli- gation; and WHEREAS, President Reynolds has indicated they may want their own field in 1965 and have evidenced an interest in the location of the franchise in Orange County; and WHEREAS, surveys have shown a large number of Orange County residents now support the Agels at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, the present population of Orange County is in excess of three-quarters of a million people, with a 1980 es- timated population of two and one-half million people; and WHEREAS, the central location of Orange County midway between three major metropolitan areas with immediate freeway access from each; and WHEREAS, professional baseball clubs and concessions rep- resent the free competitive enterprise system and are self-sup- porting; and WHEREAS, the identification of Orange County with a major sports endeavor such as the Angels Major League Club would 1. Res. No. 1514 benefit all communities therein. NOT TBEREFORE BE IT RESMVED that the City of Huntington Beach work together with other cities in Orange County, their Chambers of Commerce, the associated Chamber of Commerce, and service organizations toward the achievment of this goal.
