HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1515 "\ RESOLUTION No. 1515 A RESOLUTION OF TIE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH IN SUPPORT OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY TO ACQUIRE CONTROL OF THE WEST- ERN PACIFIC RAILWAY COMPANY THROUGH AC- QUISITION OF ITS CAPITAL STOCK WHEREAS, in Finance Docket Nos. 21314 and 21315, South- ern Pacific Company proposes to acquire control, through stock ownership, of The Western Pacific Railroad Company;and WHEREAS, the control of The Western Pacific Railroad Company by Southern Pacific Company will make possible the planning and development of co-ordinated and consolidated transportation operations between those two carriers and such co-ordinations and consolidations will contribute to more efficient and more economical transportation; and WHEREAS, the City of Huntington Beach has an interest in the development of improved rail transportation by reason of the Southern Pacific Company's operations within Orange County and the Pacific Electric Railway Company's lines directly serving the City of Huntington Beach; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED, That the City of Hunting- ton Beach supports and endorses the applications of Southern Pacific Company to acquire control of The Western Pacific Railroad Company, through stock ownership, and authorizes the communication of this position to the Interstate Commerce 1. Res. No, 1515 Commission and all interested state commissions; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized and directed to take such steps as in their judgment will implement and give full force and effect to the position of the City of Huntington Beach in support of the proposal of Southern Pacific Company to acquire control of The Western Pacific Railroad Company.
