A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH URGING
TAX RELIEF AS TO FALL-OUT SHELTERS.
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, Orange
County, California, resolves as follows:
WHEREAS, the construction of adequate civil defense fall-
out and bomb shelters is necessary and imperative for the pro-
te,ction of our citizens and their children; and
WHEREAS, in this era of nuclear warfare the ability of
the people to protect themselves from nuclear attack constitutes
in and of itself a deterrent to such attack; and
WHEREAS9 the President of the United States has requested
that every citizen and governmental agency do everything they
can to encourage the construction and erection of sufficient
civil defense shelters and fall-out shelters so that the people
of these United States can preserve themselves and by so doing
this nation in the event of war; and
WHEREAS9 the governmental agencies of this State and of the
Federal Government should and must encourage directly and in-
directly the erection of civil defense shelters;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVE by this City Council that the
State Board of Equalization, the County Assessor and the Internal
Revenue Service be urged to investigate and if possible to estab-

lish such practices as will grant a tax benefit to those
persons who construct shelters on their property and serve
this nation's interests;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk transmit cer-
tified copies of this Resolution to the Secretary of the
Board of Equalization, County Assessor , to the Director of
Internal Revenue and to the Senators and Congressmen from
this district.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach, California? at a regular meeting thereof
held on the 160 day of October, 1961.

was passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of more than
a majority of all the members of said City Council at a regu-
lar meeting thereof held on the 160 day of October, 1961,
