HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1554 RESOLUTION No. 1554 A RESOLUTION COMI/lENDING THE BRAVERY CF SERGEANT HENRY ARCHER AND OFFICER GROVER PAYNE OF THE HUNTINGTON BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT. WHEREAS, it has been called to the attention of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, That on the night of December 14, 1961, Sergeant Henry Archer and Officer Grover Payne of the Huntington Beach Police Department , while off duty, entered a burning build- ing and placed their own lives in danger in rescuing four small children and two women. That , according to witnesses at the scene of the fire, the two small children would have perished if these officers had not acted with speed, efficiency and disregard for their own safety. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Hunting- ton Beach, California, does hereby resolve: That Sergeant Henry Archer and Officer Grover Payne be highly commended for their acts of heroism, bravery and de- votion to human needs beyond the scope of their duties.
