HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1567 RESOLUTION No. 1567 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH OPPOSING ANY AL- LOCATION CHANGE OF LIQUOR LICENSE REVEL FRO14 CITIES TO COUNTIES WHEREAS, various counties are asking Governor Brown and the members of the Legislature for three-fourths of the liquor license revenue now allocated to cities; and W1=IERSAS, the tax�)ayers of the City of Huntington Beach pay their pro-rata share of approximately eighty-two percent of the cost of County operation; and AREAS, the City of Huntington Beach, in addition there- to, pays to the County the cost of feeding and care of pris- oners who violate city ordinances; and AREAS, the County uses these prisoners for the mainten- ance of county properties, and not for the benefit of the City of Huntington Beach; and WHEREAS, the original purpose of the liquor license rev- enue was to help in the enforcement of liquor laws; and WHEREAS, in fact, the City Police enforce from 95 to 100% of the cases dealing with the violation of liquor laws within the City; and WI3REAS7 if three-fourths, or any other sum, were given 1. Res. No. 1567 to the County from the liquor license revenue, this would, in effect, be double taxation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach that the City administrator be directed to send a telegram to Governor Brown, the State Leg- islators from Orange County, the Chairman of the assembly Ways and Means Committee and the Chairman of the Senate -Fi- nance Committee that the City of Huntington Beach opposes any legislation which will give the counties three-fourths of the liquor license revenue, or any other percentage.
