HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1728 RESOLUTION No. 1728 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH OPPOSING RE_AP- PORTTONMENT OF THE STATE SENATE. WHEREAS, the bi-cameral system of government has been duly tried throughout the years by the various states of the United States, including the Federal Government; WHEREAS, the bi-cameral system of government in the State of California gives representation not only to the people but to the different areas of the State of California; WHEREAS, the bi-cameral system of government respects the rights of the minority; WHEREAS, reapportionment of the State Senate on the basis of population rather than geography would drastically change the bi-cameral system of government now presently en- joyed by the State of California; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, as follows: RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Hunt- ington Beach, as well as the people it represents, are opposed to reapportionment of the State Senate on the basis of population rather than geography. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the filing of any lawsuits for said purpose are against the wishes of the people 1 Ties. No. 1728 of the State of California as shown by the general election covering this matter. BE IT FURTHER. RESOLVED that the State take cognizance of the will of the people and of the proposed destruction of the bi-cameral system of government and thereby vigorous- ly fight to defeat any proposal to so reapportion the State Senate. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 4th day of March, 1963. Mayor ATTEST: L2 I City l Res.
