HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1796 RESOLUTION No, 1796 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING AN INITIATIVE PROPOSAL TO STIR NATIONAL CELEBRATION OF THE FOURTH OF JULY BY THE HINGING OF BELLS. WHEREAS, the Fourth of July has evolved into more of a summer holiday than a patriotic festival; and WHEREAS, it would be fitting that the Nation' s Birth- day be celebrated where it began, in front of the Liberty Bell at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California, endorse a proposed Initiative to stir a new wave of patriotic feeling and turn each Fourth of July into a most inspiring celebration in our Nation's history by the ringing of all church bells, all bells in government buildings and all carillon bells in colleges and universities for a period of four minutes; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that every Radio and. Television Station across the nation broadcast the sound of bells for two minutes, followed by a reading from the Declaration of Inde- pendence; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the timing be established by the geographic time zones across the continent wherein 1. ides., No. 1796 2:00 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time; 1:00 P.M. Central Daylight Time; 12:00 Noon Mountain Daylight Time and 11:00 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time would be the precise time to initiate the four minute period of bell ringing.
