HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 1921 FAILED RESOLUTION No. 1921 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUBMITTING A PROPOSITION TO THE VOTERS FOR THE ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE MAKING THE OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE, .AN APPOINTIVE OFFICE, The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach do resolve as follows: That at the general municipal election, to be held in the City of Huntington Beach on April 14, 1964,there shall be submitted to the qualified electors of said City, a proposition to adopt an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 403, which has been codified as Section 1261 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code to make the office of the Chief of Police an appointive office, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ordinance so sub- mitted to the voters, shall be in words and figures, as follows: ORDINANCE No. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH MAKING THE OFFICE OF THE, CHIEF OF POLICE AN APPOINTIVE OFFICE RATHER THAN ELECTED FROM THE CITY AT LARGE, AND AMENDING SECTION 1261 OF THE HUNTINGTON BEACH ORDINANCE CODE The People of the City of Huntington Beach do or- dain as follows: 1. Res, NO. 1921 FAILED Section 1. That Section 1261 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code be and the same is hereby amended to read in words and figures,as follows: Section 1261. �Mointment of Chief of Police; The Chief of Police shall be appointed by the City Council and shall hold office at the pleasure of the Council. Section 2, The City ,Clerk shall certify to the pass- age and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News, a weekly newspaper, publish- ed, printed and circulated in the City of Hunting- ton Beach, Orange County, California, and this or- dinance shall take effect and be in force, as pro- vided by law. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be and he Is hereby instructed to cause a proposition for the adoption of said ordinance to be printed on the ballot to be used at the General Municipal Election to be held 'on April loth, 19649 and that said proposition is to be printed on the ballot in substantially the following form: "SHALL THE ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1261 OF THE HUNTINGTON BEACH ORDINANCE CODE TO MAKE THE OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE OF HUNTING- TON BEACH AN APPOINTIVE OFFICE RATHER THAN ELECTED FROM THE CITY AT LARGE; BE ADOPTED"" Regis. No. 1921 FAILED PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California, at a regular meeting held on the 3 rd day of February 1964.
