A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH ENDORSING THE
PRINCIPLES OF S.1G19 and COMPANION BILLS.
WHEREAS, United States Senators Thomas H. Kuchel and
George Murphy of California have introduced S, 1019 into the
U. S. Senate, which bill is known as the "Lower Colorado
River Basin Project Act," and in fact is a compromise measure
which would guarantee California protection of 4.4 million
acre feet of Colorado River water annually until at least 2.5
million additional acre feet of water a year is brought into
the mainstream of the river from outside the Colorado River
Basin; and
WHEREAS, under this bill, the Central Arizona Project
would. bear the burden of any water shortage in the Colorado
River until additional water becomes available; and
WHEREAS, by passing the legislation, Congress would
declare that its policy is to provide the additional 2.5
million acre feet of water and the Interior Secretary would
be directed to determine within three years how the water can
be obtained; and
WHEREAS 31 California Congressmen and the 3 Arizona
Congressmen have introduced similar legislation into the U.S,
House of Representatives,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby support the prim
ciples embodied in S. 1019 and its counterpart measures now
pending in the United States Congress, and does commend the

Secretary of the Interior, the Governors of California and
Arizona, the California Congressional delegation, and the
Arizona Congressmen for their respective roles in working out
the compromise agreement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolu-
tion be sent to the Orange County Board of Supervisors and
to City Councils and other agencies in Orange County, urging
their support.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting held on the 51-h day
of April 1965.
