A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH,
CALIFORNIA, ORDERING, CALLING, PROVIDING FOR
AND GIVING NOTICE OF A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE
HELD IN THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH ON THE
10TH DAY OF AUGUST, 1965 , FOR THE PURPOSE OF
SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF SAID
CITY A PROPOSITION TO AMEND THE CITY CHARTER
OF SAID CITY.
WHEREAS, a petition was filed with the City Council
of the City of Huntington Beach on March 9, 1965 , containing
3968 signatures requesting submission to the voters of said
City an amendment to the City Charter of said City, adding and
amending certain sections thereof; and
WHEREAS , such petition has been certified to the
City Council by the City Clerk as being sufficient according
to e th requirement of Section 8 0_ Article q

Constitution of the State of California under which such
proposed amendment shall be processed .
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach, California, does hereby resolve, determine,
direct and order as follows:
SECTION 1 . That a special election be held, and
the same is hereby called to be held, in the City of Huntington
Beach, California, on the loth day of August, 1965, for the
purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said city
said proposition to amend the Huntington Beach City Charter,
as hereinafter more particularly set forth.

SECTION 2. That the polls for said election shall
be opened at seven o'clock A.M. , of the day of said election
and shall remain open continuously from said time until seven
o'clock, P.M. , of the same day, when said polls shall be closed,
except as provided in Section 14436 of the Elections Code of
the State of California .
SECTION 3 . That on the ballots to be used at said
special election, in addition to any other matters required by
law, there shall be printed substantially the following:
MARK. CROSSES (+) ON BALLOT ONLY WITH RUBBER STAMP:
NEVER WITH PEN OR PENCIL.
(ABSENTEE BALLOTS MAY BE MARKED WITH PEN AND INK
.OR PENCIL.)

INSTRUCTION TO VOTERS
To vote on any measure, stamp a cross (+) in the
voting square after the word "YES" or after the
word "NO' . All marks, except the cross (+) are
forbidden. All distinguishing marks or erasures
are forbidden and make the ballot void .
If you wrongly stamp, tear or deface this ballot,
return it to the inspector of election and obtain
another.
On absent voter' s ballots mark a cross (+} with
pen or pencil.
PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT
Shall the City Charter of Huntington
• Beach be amended to provide that the '
City Council shall consist of a mayor, YES
and six members of the city council, '
the mayor to be elected by the qualified
voters of the city at large and the six '
members of the council to be residents
of and elected from individual council
districts by the qualified voters of the ;
individual districts, defining the said NO '
districts , and making other changes
compatible therewith.

SECTION 4. A cross (+) placed in the voting square
after the word "YES" in the manner bereinbefore provided shall
be counted in favor of the proposition. A cross (+) placed
in the voting square after the word "NO" in the manner here-
inbefore provided shall be counted against the adoption of
the proposition.
SECTION 5 . The City Clerk is hereby authorized,
instructed and directed to procure and furnish any and all
official ballots, notices, printed matter, and all supplies,
equipment and paraphernalia that may be necessary in order to
properly and lawfully conduct said election.
SECTION 6 . That in all particulars not recited in
this resolution or subsequent resolution pertaining to said
election, said election shall be held and conducted as pro-
vided by law for holding municipal special elections.
SECTION 7 . That notice of the time and place of
holding said election is hereby given and the City Clerk is
hereby directed to give said notice of said election and of
the proposition to be voted on in the manner and within the
time provided by law.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City
of Huntington Beach, California, this 4tb day of June, 1965 .

I, PAUL C. JONES, the duly elected, qualified and
acting City Clerk of the City of Huntington Beach, and
ex-officio Clerk of the City Council of said City, do hereby
certify that the whole number of members of the City Council
of the City of Huntington Beach is five; that the foregoing
resolution was passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of
more than a majority of all the members of said City Council
adjourned
at a regular/meeting thereof held on the 4th day
of June 1965, by the following vote:
