HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 2308 RESOLUTION No. 2308 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUPPORTING THE MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THIS NATION FIGHTING IN VIET NAM. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, that WHEREAS, our young men are engaged in mortal combat In Viet Nam in support of the foreign policy commitment of our country; and WHEREAS, individual and clamorous groups in this country have been attempting to undermine the foreign policy of this nation by vociferously opposing it; and WHEREAS, the press, radio and television have given tremendous coverage to this opposition, which lends the er- roneous impression to hostile nations that the majority of our citizens do not support our commitment in Viet Nam and are unwilling to uphold our national honor; and WHEREAS, members of the armed forces, both here and those fighting in Viet Nam have expressed shock and concern over the apathy of those for whom they are fighting; and WHEREAS, these men desire and deserve a statement from the citizens of our Nation that we support them and appreciate them; 1. Resolution No. 2308 THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, on behalf of the people of Huntington Beach, extends to the members of the armed forces the assurance that our fighting men are remembered and ap- preeiated by the citizens of this city* BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the President of the United States, to the United States Senators from this State and to Congressman Richard T.
