HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 2729 e RESOLUTION No. 2729 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINCTON BEPCH, CALIFORNIA, STATING THE RESULT OF THE CANVASS OF ELECTION) RETURNS OF THE CENERPL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD APRIL 9th 19689 AS CERTIFIED TO THEM BY THE CITY CLERK WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California, did by Resolution 2689, duly and regularly adopt at a regular Meeting of said Co Urcil, call for and pro- vide for the holding of the General Municipal Election with- in said City of Huntington Beach on the 9th day of Ppril, 1968, and '7u%REAS, notice of said election was duly and regular- ly given in time, form and manner as provided by law, and said election was held on said date at the polling places designated In Resolution 2689, Passed and adopted by the City Council on February j, 1968, and the votes cast thereat here canvassed and and the returns thereof made by the City Clerk of the City of Huntington Beach at the time and in the manner and form provided by law, and WHEREAS, said City Council has duly assembled at its usual place of meeting to receive the certification of the re- turns of saia election as determined by the City Clerk conduct- ing said canvass for, and by the order of the City Council, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Runt- 1 Res.No. 2729 ington Beach, California , does hereby resolve, determine and or- der as follows Section 1. That the General municipal Election for the election of members of the City Council , for the election of a City Clerk, City Treasurer and for voting on Charter Amendments to make the offices of City Attorney, City Clerk and City Treasurer appointive, was duly held on April 9th, 1968, and the votes cast at said election were duly and regularly canvassed and the returns thereof made at the time and in the form and manner required by law. The absentee voter ballots have been duly canvassed and count- ed as required by law, and the result of such count is hereinafter stated. Section 2. That the City Council has received the returns of said election, as canvassed by the City Clerk at this Council°s direction and on its behalf, and this City Council finds that the total number of votes cast in each of the respective election pre- cincts, the number of votes therein for and against each candidate for said offices and for and against each charter amendment in each of the respective election precincts, the total number of absentee votes cast and the number of votes therein for and against each candidate for said offices and for and against each charter amend- ment, the total number of absentee votes cast at said election and the total number of votes cast in said city for each candidate for said office and for each charter amendment are as shown on the tally sheet attached hereto and made a part of this resolutions 2 Res No 2729 Section 3. That the whole number of ballots cast in the City of Huntington Beach at said general election, includ- ing all absentee ballots is 8,808 ballots. Section 4. The Council finds and declares that the following named persons were elected to the respective offices indicated opposite their names, to-wit Donald D. Shipley Councilman Jerry A Matney Councilman George C. McCracken Councilman Paul C. Jones City Clerk Warren G. Hall City Treasurer Section 5. The Council finds and declares that the T amendments to the Huntington Beach Charter Numbers 19 2 and 3 were not acTopted, to-wit Amendment No. 1 City Attorney Amendment No. 2 City Treasurer Amendment No. 3 City Clerk Section 6, The City Clerk is hereby directed to enter on the records of the City Council a statement of the result of said election as required by law. Section 7, The City Clerk shall immediately make and deliver to each of such persons elected a certification of election signed by him and duly authenticated. He shall also 4 Res. No. 2729 impose the corstitutional oath of office and have each of said persons subscribe thereto, whereupon they shall be in- ducted into the respective offices to whicn they have been elected. Section 8. That the City Clerk shall attest and cer- tify to the passage and adoption of this resolution by a major- ity of the votes of the members of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach. Paul C Jones , the duly elected, qualified and acting Citj Clerk of the City of uuntington Beach, and ey-officio Clerk of the City Council of said city, do nereby certify that I, in accordance with direction from said City Council set forth in Tiesolution No 2689, did conauct the canvass of the returns of the General rgunicipal Election held in the City of Huntington Beach on April 9th, 1968, submitting to the qualified voters of said city, thirteen candidates for the office of Councilman, three candidates for the of- fice of City Treasurer ana one candidate for the office of City Clerk, as set fortn in Resolution No. 2689.
