HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 2856 RESOLUTION NO. 2856 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH OPPOSING ESTABLISHMENT OF SPECIAL FIRE DISTRICTS USING MONEY FROM THE COUNTY GENERAL FUND WHEREAS, the County of Orange is considering building and equipping fire stations for the use of smaller cities in the county, such as Cypress , Los Alamitos and La Palma, with money from the county general fund; and The cost of constructing fire stations and furnishing fire- fighting equipment is already financed in major part by taxpayers in the incorporated areas of the county; and The majority of cities in the county, except smaller cities , pay for and equip their own fire stations from taxes paid by their citizens for this purpose ; and The City of Huntington Beach agrees that fire protection should be afforded those cities which are not able to finance municipal fire departments ; provided, however, that all of the fire services required by such cities in the proposed special fire districts are financed through payment of a special tax, and not by funds from the county general fund, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH as follows : That it does support the principal that fire protection should be furnished smaller cities in the County of Orange unable to afford municipal fire departments ; and further, that the funding of such fire protection be done by special tax for fire services , rather than the use of money from the General Fund of the County of Orange . PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 21st 1 . day of October 1968 .
