A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTINGTON BEACH OPPOSING ESTABLISHMENT
OF SPECIAL FIRE DISTRICTS USING MONEY FROM
THE COUNTY GENERAL FUND
WHEREAS, the County of Orange is considering building and
equipping fire stations for the use of smaller cities in the
county, such as Cypress , Los Alamitos and La Palma, with money
from the county general fund; and
The cost of constructing fire stations and furnishing fire-
fighting equipment is already financed in major part by taxpayers
in the incorporated areas of the county; and
The majority of cities in the county, except smaller cities ,
pay for and equip their own fire stations from taxes paid by
their citizens for this purpose ; and
The City of Huntington Beach agrees that fire protection
should be afforded those cities which are not able to finance
municipal fire departments ; provided, however, that all of the
fire services required by such cities in the proposed special
fire districts are financed through payment of a special tax,
and not by funds from the county general fund,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH as follows :
That it does support the principal that fire protection
should be furnished smaller cities in the County of Orange unable
to afford municipal fire departments ; and further, that the
funding of such fire protection be done by special tax for fire
services , rather than the use of money from the General Fund
of the County of Orange .
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 21st
1 .
