HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 2859 RESOLUTION NO. 2859 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUPPORTING PROPOSITION 1A, PROVIDING TAX RELIEF TO HOMEOWNERS AND RENTERS WHEREAS, Proposition 1A would, if adopted, establish a homeowners ' tax exemption of not less than $750 of assessed valuation for each dwelling occupied by an owner as his place of residence, and further provide that resultant loss of property tax revenue to each county and city shall be reim- bursed by the state; and Senate Bill No. 8, which will become effective only upon adoption of Proposition 1A, would exempt household goods and personal effects from property taxation commencing July 1, 1969 , and would exempt fifteen percent (15%) of the value of business inventories from property taxation commencing July 1, 1969 ; and Senate Bill No. 8 will also provide tax relief to persons who rent their residences by allowing an increase in the stand- ard deduction from the state income tax; and The City Council declares that Proposition 1A is a signi- ficant step toward much-needed tax reform, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach that it does strongly support Proposition 1A, appearing on the ballot for the November 5, 1968 election, PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 21st day of October, 1968 .
