A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH DECLARING THAT
THE BEACHES, SEASHORE, WILDLIFE AND MA-
RINE LIFE OF THE CITY ARE IN DANGER,
AND URGING THE STATE TO ADOPT AND ENFORCE
MORE STRINGENT SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR
OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING AND DERRICKS
WHEREAS, the beaches and the seashore and the existence
of wildlife and marine life are of primary importance to the
scenic beauty and the recreational desirability of the City of
Huntington Beach, as well as to the economy of said city; and
Preservation of such beaches , seashore, wildlife and marine
life is in the best interests of city, residents of said city
and other persons in California and other states who travel to
this city to enjoy the scenic and recreational facilities pro-
vided by the City of Huntington Beach; and
Because of the recent disaster at an offshore oil derrick
in Santa Barbara, the water, beaches and seashores have been
saturated with oil, have been ruined and made extremely un-
attractive, wildlife and marine life have been destroyed, and
now the beaches, seashores, wildlife and marine life of the
City of Huntington Beach are endangered; and
There are several offshore oil derricks adjacent to the
City of Huntington Beach and within the immediate vicinity of
the City of Huntington Beach; and
The City Council believes that safety precautions for
existing and proposed offshore oil operations are ineffectual,
insufficient or not enforced regularly so as to protect
properties abutting the ocean adequately and to preserve wild-
life and marine life,
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington

Beach does hereby resolve as follows :
The California Public Resources Commission, members of the
state legislature, representing the people of the City of
Huntington Beach, congressmen representing the people of the
City of Huntington Beach, the Governor of the State of Cali-
fornia, the Secretary of the Interior, the League of California
Cities and the California Division of Oil and Gas , and all
other persons in public positions who have authority and in-
fluence to promote the adoption of more stringent safety pre-
cautions for offshore oil derricks , are hereby respectfully
requested and urged to take all necessary steps to attain safety
regulations for offshore oil drilling and operations , and to
encourage the regular and strict enforcement of existing and
future regulations in order to protect properties abutting the
ocean, the beaches , recreational and scenic facilities , and
marine life.
The City Clerk is directed to transmit copies of this
resolution to the organizations and individuals as set forth
hereinabove .
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 3rd
day of February, 1969 .
