HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 2987 I RESOLUTION NO. 2987 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH URGING THE PUBLIC UTILI- TIES COMMISSION TO ISSUE PERMIT TO FURNISH DIRECT AIRLINE SERVICE BETWEEN ORANGE COUNTY AND SACRAMENTO WHEREAS, there is now pending before the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California an application to pro- vide direct airline service between Orange Count and Sacramento ; y and Orange County is a recognized, major metropolitan area and is the county with the second highest population in the State of California; and There does not now exist direct airline service between Orange County and Sacramento; and It is becoming increasingly hard for businessmen, educators , local governmental officials , and other citizens to travel by surface transportation the long distances and extra hours to airports outside of Orange County for air travel; and All of the citizens and governmental entities of Orange County will benefit from regularly-scheduled airline service to Sacramento, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington.Beach that it does request the Public Utilities Commission to provide a certificate of convenience and necessity to permit scheduled, direct airline service between Orange County and Sacramento . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Public Utilities Com- mission is requested to expedite its procedures so that such airline service will become available to the citizens of Orange County at the earliest possible date .
