A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH OPPOSING THE
BUDGET CUT WHICH WOULD LIMIT FUNDS AVAIL-
ABLE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF LIBRARY FAC-
ILITIES AND OPPOSING THE PLACING OF LI-
BRARY FACILITIES AND BOOKS ON LOW PRIORITY
FOR RECEIPT OF FEDERAL FUNDS
WHEREAS, the City of Huntington Beach is in need of a
library facility for the citizens of the city, and has re-
solved to provide such facilities for the citizens , and in
order to determine the feasibility of constructing such
library facilities for the city, relied upon receiving about
one-third of the required acquisition and construction funds
from the Federal Government, Library Services and Construc-
tion Act, Title II; and
The City of Huntington Beach has purchased land for the
purpose of constructing such library, and has discovered that
one-third of the funds for construction will not be available
because of federal budget cuts and the placing of educational
books and equipment on low priority for receipt of federal
funds .
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington
Beach does hereby resolve as follows :
That it is opposed to any federal budget cuts which would
deprive this city and other cities of needed library and edu-
cational facilities , and the City Council is opposed to the
placing of library facilities, books and equipment on low
priority for the receipt of federal funds .
The City Council hereby encourages and urges our Presi-
dent and our Congressmen to continue funds from the federal
budget for library facilities or to place such library facil-
ities on a high priority .

The City Council further resolves that a copy of this
resolution shall be mailed to President Nixon, Governor
