HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 2989 RESOLUTION NO. 2989 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH OPPOSING THE BUDGET CUT WHICH WOULD LIMIT FUNDS AVAIL- ABLE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF LIBRARY FAC- ILITIES AND OPPOSING THE PLACING OF LI- BRARY FACILITIES AND BOOKS ON LOW PRIORITY FOR RECEIPT OF FEDERAL FUNDS WHEREAS, the City of Huntington Beach is in need of a library facility for the citizens of the city, and has re- solved to provide such facilities for the citizens , and in order to determine the feasibility of constructing such library facilities for the city, relied upon receiving about one-third of the required acquisition and construction funds from the Federal Government, Library Services and Construc- tion Act, Title II; and The City of Huntington Beach has purchased land for the purpose of constructing such library, and has discovered that one-third of the funds for construction will not be available because of federal budget cuts and the placing of educational books and equipment on low priority for receipt of federal funds . NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby resolve as follows : That it is opposed to any federal budget cuts which would deprive this city and other cities of needed library and edu- cational facilities , and the City Council is opposed to the placing of library facilities, books and equipment on low priority for the receipt of federal funds . The City Council hereby encourages and urges our Presi- dent and our Congressmen to continue funds from the federal budget for library facilities or to place such library facil- ities on a high priority . 1. The City Council further resolves that a copy of this resolution shall be mailed to President Nixon, Governor Reagan, John G . Veneman, Under Secretary of the Health, Education and Welfare, Congressmen Hanna, Utt and Hosmer, Senators Murphy and Cranston and the American Library Asso- ciation. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular adjourned meeting thereof held on the 12th day of May, 1969 .
