PERTAINING TO APPORTIONMENT AND EXPENDITURES
OF GAS TAX FUNDS
WHEREAS, the majority of registered vehicles in the State
of California are located in the thirteen counties ; and
In addition to the increased allocations of gas tax funds
allotted to cities and counties , a modification of the regula-
tions imposed on such funds to permit such cities and counties
to use gas tax funds on nonselect system streets and to provide
street lighting on select system streets would be of material
benefit to said public entities ,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Huntington Beach that legislation be introduced which
would return sixty percent (60%) of the gas tax, funds , rather
than the present fifty-five percent (55%) , to the southern
counties in the state; and
That legislation be introduced to allow cities to use gas
tax funds on nonselect system streets on the condition that such
funds are matched by nongas tax sources on a fifty-fifty basis ,
and that gas tax funds be available for street lighting on
streets which qualify as select system streets .
The City Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this reso-
lution to Assemblyman E. Richard Barnes to support his proposed
