HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 3140 RESOLUTION NO . 3140 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH REAFFIRMING ITS POSITION ON THE EXPANSION OF THE EDISON ELECTRIC PLANT WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach recognizes that growing demands for electric power necessitate the construction of additional electric generating plants , and expansion of existing electric generating plants , and The Council is concerned about the effect of the proposed facilities on the quality of air and water in the vicinity , and natural resources and aesthetics of the area, public health and safety, parks, recreational and scenic areas , and City desires to protect the environment and to promote the health, safety, comfort and convenience of the public while at the same time permitting the generation of sufficient electric power, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby resolve as follows : That the City Council recognizes the need for additional electrical energy, but that the City Council opposes any expan- sion of existing electrical generating facilities or construc- tion of new facilities if such expansion or construction will result in exceeding the emission standards now enforced by official state agencies concerning pollution. The Public Utilities Commission is hereby urged to insti- tute whatever controls are available to regulate emission of pollutants in the expansion program of the Edison plant in the City of Huntington Beach. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Hunt- ington Beach at a regular adjourned meeting held on the 19th day of February, 1970 .
