HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 3176 RESOLUTION NO. 3176 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH OPPOSING THE CONSTRUCTION AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE TRESTLE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE SANTA ANA RIVER AS A PIER AND RECREATIONAL FACILITY WHEREAS, hydraulic studies have not been made in order to determine the effect of the littoral drift of sand which will cause erosion of the coastline of California; and The city spends large sums of money for sand replenishment and erosion protection each. year; and The development of such trestle for recreational facilities will affect the development of the entire coastline and in- crease the traffic flow in the coastline cities and such pier or trestle does not have adequate parking for a recreational facility; and Such project will be detrimental to the entire recreational program of the state and the city, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby resolve as follows : 1. That it is opposed to the development of the pier or trestle on the north side of the Santa Ana River without a com- plete hydraulic study to determine the effects of littoral drift of sand and erosion of the coastline; and 2 . The city further resolves that it supports the Cali- fornia Department of Recreation and Parks in opposing the de- velopment of such trestle . 3 . That the City Clerk is directed to send copies of this resolution to the appropriate state agencies and representatives .
