HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 3548 RESOLUTION NO. 3548 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH STATING THE RE- SULT OF THE CANVASS OF ELECTION RETURNS OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD JUNE 61 1972 WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, by Resolutions Nos . 3454 and 3457 , duly called and provided for the holding,of a special election in said city on June 6, 1972, for the purpose of submitting to the quali- fied voters of said city the propositions set forth in said resolutions and hereinafter stated; and The City Council of said City of Huntington Beach did request the Board of Supervisors of Orange County, California to include said special election for the City of Huntington Beach with an election being held by the County of Orange for the United States , and the State of California; and Said Board of Supervisors did consent to the combining of the Huntington Beach special city election with the general election being held by the County of Orange , through the adoption of their Resolution No . 68-111 on January 30 , 1968 , and amended by their Resolution No . 68-913 on August 27 , 1968 , and Resolution No . 72-459 on May 1, 1972 ; and Notice of said election was duly and regularly given in time, form and manner as provided by law, and said election was duly held on said date at the polling places designated by said County of Orange ; and 1 . The Registrar of Voters of the County of Orange did on July 3 , 1972 issue a certification of the statement of vote for the City of Huntington Beach special muni- cipal election consolidated with the general election held June 6 , 1972 , and that the votes cast in the special election of the City of Huntington Beach, as combined with the general election held by the County of Orange , are as follows : MEASURE "C" - Fluoride Proposition: Shall fluoride , in an amount not to exceed one part floride per million parts of water, be added to the water system of the City of Huntington Beach? YES VOTES - 23161 NO VOTES - 15194 MEASURE "D" - Charter Amendment Proposition : Shall the Charter be amended to provide for compensation of City Councilmen, City Clerk and City Treasurer, as provided for general law cities by the California Government Code? YES VOTES - 9533 NO VOTES - 27175 NOW, THEREFORE , the City Council of the City of Hunting- ton Beach does hereby resolve , determine and order as follows : SECTION 1. That the special election for the purpose of submitting to the voters of the City of Huntington Beach the propositions hereinafter set forth was duly held on June 6, 1972 , and the votes cast at said election were duly and regularly canvassed, and the returns thereof made at the time and in the form and manner required by law . 2 . SECTION 2 . That the propositions voted upon at said election were numbered "C" and "D" and were as follows , to wit . Shall fluoride , in an amount not to exceed one part fluoride per million parts of water, be added to the water system of the City of Huntington Beach? "D" - Shall the Charter be amended to provide for compensation of City Councilmen, City Clerk and City Treasurer, as provided for general law cities by the California Government Code? SECTION 3 . That all ballots cast , including the absentee ballots cast , have been duly canvassed and counted as required by law, and the result of such count is hereinafter stated . That this City Council does hereby accept the canvass of the returns of said election, as made by the Registrar of Voters of the County of Orange , and certified by the Registrar of Voters of said County in his letter dated July 3, 1972 , with a total count for all precincts established in the City of Huntington Beach, including all absentee ballots cast in said precincts , being as follows : MEASURE "C" - FLUORIDE PROPOSITION YES: 23161 Votes NO: 15194 Votes MEASURE "D" - CHARTER AMENDMENT PROPOSITION YES: 9533 Votes NO: 27175 Votes 3 • SECTION 4 . That the votes of a majorityof all the voters voting on Measure "C" at said election were cast for the adoption of said Measure "C" and said Measure "C" is hereby declared to be adopted. SECTION 5 . That the votes of a majority of all the voters voting on Measure "D" at said election were cast against the adoption of said Measure "D" and said Measure "D" is hereby declared to be defeated . PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California at a regular meeting thereof held on the 21st day of August , 1972 . JONES, the duly elected, qualified and acting City Clerk of the City of Huntington Beach, and ex- officio Clerk of the City Council of said City, do hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach is seven; that the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of more than a majority of all the members of said City Council at a regular meeting thereof held on the 21st day of August 19 72 , by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Bartlett, Gibbs, Green, Matney, Duke, Coen NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: Shipley Cit Clerk and -officio Clerk of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California
