HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 3644 RESOLUTION N0 . 3644 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH URGING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO ADOPT YEAR-ROUND DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME WHEREAS, a high percentage of auto accidents are attrib- utable to fatigue and semi-darkness , and the addition of one hour of daylight in the evening would increase the safe- driving period for employees returning home from work; and The crime rate would be reduced by an extra hour of day- light which would enable more workers to reach home before dark; and An extra hour of daylight would result in reductions in electrical and fuel consumption, which would improve both economy and environment, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby commend Congressman Craig Hosmer for his efforts to secure passage of bills H.R. 2337 and H.R. 2338 supporting year-round daylight savings time. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that , for the reasons above stated, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does urge and request the Congress of the United States to adopt year-round daylight savings time in the interest of public health and safety . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to transmit copies of this resolution to appropriate legislators in the United States Congress . PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 20th 1. lm day of February, 1973 .
