A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTINGTON BEACH REQUESTING THE STATE LEGISLATURE
TO UTILIZE SURPLUS FUNDS TO ACQUIRE THE 2 . 3 MILES
OF PRIVATE BEACH NORTHWEST OF THE HUNTINGTON BEACH
MUNICIPAL PIER
WHEREAS , the State of California anticipates surplus funds
of approximately $7503000 ,000 to $800 ,000 ,000 which should be
available at the end of this fiscal year; and
The voters of the State of California voted overwhelmingly
to approve Proposition 20 which was primarily designed to protect
and preserve the coastal area for present and future generations ;
and
There exists certain privately-owned property which if
developed, in any manner, will be detrimental to the coastal
area and thereby defeat the intent of Proposition 20 , the
expressed desire of the people of the State of California; and
It is desirable to acquire such area for open space , parks ,
beaches and recreational ,purposes ; and
There exists 2 . 3 miles of privately-owned beach northwest
of the Huntington Beach Municipal Pier which is a critical link
in the California public beach system,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of
the City of Huntington Beach hereby urges the members of the
legislature to utilize said surplus funds to enable the State
of California to acquire the 2 . 3 miles of private beach in
the City of Huntington Beach for the benefit of all of the
citizens of California.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed
to furnish copies of this resolution to appropriate state legis-
lators and agencies .

that the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the affirmative
vote of more than a majority of all the members of said City Council
at a regular meeting thereof held on the 21s t day
