A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUPPORTING THE ENDORSEMENT
BY THE ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE
PROPOSAL THAT THE METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT
MAKE WATER AVAILABLE AT REDUCED RATE FOR THE
IRRIGATION OF GREENBELTS AND PERMANENT OPEN SPACE
WHEREAS , it has come to the attention of the Orange
County Planning Commission that the Metropolitan Water District
is being asked to consider making water available at a reduced
rate for the irrigation of greenbelts and permanent open space;
and
Metropolitan Water District water now being used for
this purpose is charged at domestic rates at a cost which
severely limits and discourages the preservation of such
areas ; and
The proposed conservation and open space program adopted
by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange proposes
extensive corridors , nodes and greenbelts which will need
inexpensive water for irrigation in order to be economically
viable ,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Huntington Beach that it supports the endorsement by
the Orange County Planning Commission of the proposal that the
Metropolitan Water District make water available at a reduced
rate for the irrigation of greenbelts and permanent open space .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
directed to send copies of this resolution to the Orange County
Board of Supervisors and other appropriate county officials .
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the lst
