HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 3872 RESOLUTION N0. 3872 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH ENDORSING PROPOSITION 1 ON THE JUNE 4, 1974 STATEWIDE BALLOT WHEREAS, nearly 1,000,000 people had to be turned away from parks and beaches in California last year because of overwhelming demands being made on outdoor recreation; and Almost 90% of the visitors to California' s parks and beaches are residents of this state; and Proposition 1 on the June 4th statewide ballot will pro- vide 2 m' f f and e development of � 50 million or new facilities the p existing resources for historical features of the State Park System, and for fish and wildlife conservation; and Ninety million dollars of this will be granted directly to all California counties for the use of local government , which throughout the state is in dire need of park funds, while the demand for local parks has increased in urgency because of the energy crisis; and These local parks will be created and developed at no cost to the property taxpayer; and Proposition 1 is a bond issue that will be repaid by more than one generation of park users; and The need for immediate action is accentuated by threat- ened loss of potential parkland to development, and the in- creasing cost of land, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach hereby endorses Proposition 1, for the preservation of our state ' s natural environment in the face of the current park crisis , and calls on all Californians to cast a resounding YES vote for Proposition 1 on June 4th.
