A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUPPORTING THE PRESERVATION
OF THE UCI-CALIFORNIA COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AS AN
INTEGRAL PART OF THE OVERALL MEDICAL COMMUNITY
IN ORANGE COUNTY
WHEREAS, the move of the California College of Medicine
to the University of Irvine Campus in 1968 was widely acclaimed;
and
The availability and quality of medical care in a com-
munity housing a University School of Medicine is often
enhanced by such an institution; and
Medical schools , as a part of a clinical role, traditionally
provide medical care to the indigent and needy, and thus provide
a degree of relief to the otherwise responsible local government
and community agencies ; and
The graduates of such a medical school frequently seek
internship and residency training in the area of the medical
school; and
Upon completion of such training these physicians often
remain in the general community as practicing physicians;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council. of
the City of Huntington Beach supports the preservation of the
UCI-California College of Medicine as an integral part of the
overall medical-.community in Orange County; , and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this City Council believes
that the departure of the UCI-California College of Medicine
from Orange County would represent a significant loss to the
county and would not be in the best interest of its citizenry.
