A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTINGTON BEACH PROTESTING THE CREATION
OF THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF
GOVERNMENTS AS A STATUTORY AGENCY WITH MAN-
DATED MEMBERSHIP
WHEREAS, legislation is under consideration which would
transform the Southern California Association of Governments
(SLAG) from a planning and reviewing agency to one created by
statute with a mandated membership; and
This Council believes that creation of another statutory
agency would interfere with and weaken the authority of cities
and counties in the exercise of home rule,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Huntington Beach that it strongly opposes any
legislation which changes the Southern California Association
of Governments from a planning and reviewing agency to an
agency created by statute with mandatory membership of all
cities and counties .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Southern California
Association of Governments should continue to perform the same
functions that it has in the past with no decrease or increase
in its present powers .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby di-
rected to forward copies of this resolution to appropriate
agencies and legislators .
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 17th
day of March, 1975.
