A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTINGTON BEACH EXPRESSING WHOLEHEARTED
SUPPORT OF THE MAINTENANCE AND DEVELOPMENT
OF NUCLEAR POWER STATIONS IN THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, much controversy has arisen over the estab-
lishment and operation of nuclear power plants throughout the
country, and in this State with respect to a power plant lo-
cated at San Onofre ; and
Similar nuclear power plants have been in operation in
the United States since 1957, and statistics relating to the
operation of these plants show that the public ' s anxiety with
regard to continued operation and expansion of the use of
nuclear energy for the generation of electrical energy is both
unwarranted and unreasonable; and
The use of nuclear energy, with the safeguards afforded
by present day research and regulation, is a viable solution
to the nation' s energy crisis, and could afford welcome relief
to one of the economic and energy problems facing the nation
today,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Huntington Beach that it gives its unqualified support
to the continued development of nuclear power stations within
the State of California.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to
furnish copies of this resolution to the Secretary of State,
local representatives to the State Legislature, and the League
of California Cities .
