A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTINGTON BEACH ESTABLISHING SPECIFICATIONS FOR
UNDERGROUNDING COMMUNITY ANTENNA TELEVISION (CATV)
FACILITIES
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington
Beach that the Specifications for Undergrounding of Community
Antenna Television (CATV) Facilities , attached hereto and by ref-
erence made a part hereof as though set out in full herein, are
hereby adopted as the City of Huntington Beach's standard speci-
fications for said facilities . Not less than three (3) copies
of said specifications are on file in the office of the City
Clerk .
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 19th
day of July, 1976 .

SPECIFICATIONS FOR UNDERGROUNDING OF
COMMUNITY ANTENNA TELEVISION (CATV) FACILITIES
Underground facilities shall be done in conformance with the
following specifications and requirements :
1. All new development shall provide conduit, pull line,
and marker 19GA copper wire in continuous sealed runs and shall
provide no less than one (1) main trunk and distribution con-
duits to the following specifications :
Conduit size shall be three (3) inches for trunk,
two and one-half (2 1/2) inches for subtrunk, and
one and one-half (1 1/2) inches for distribution
cabling. The duct shall be schedule 40 PVC or
highmolecular weight polyethylene Rome specifica-
tion by 221X-G or equal.
2. The minimum specification for ducting shall be as
follows (equivalent or better standards may be substituted) :
(a) Outdoor conduit shall be placed underground with
a minimum depth of eighteen (18) inches .
(b) All conduits are to be located behind the curb,
within the parkway area of the street , unless other loca-
tions are authorized by the Underground Utilities Com-
mission or the City Council.
(c) All service laterals from street to home shall be:
(1) Where is passes under the street, a minimum of
one and one-half 1 1/2) inch with a pull box in the
parkway or at any other agreed location.
(2) Direct to subscriber, a minimum of one (1)
inch PVC, , highmolecular polyethylene schedule 40 or
equivalent standard.
(d) Conduit shall be laid, connected, and sealed in con-
tinuous runs . "Bell" or overlapping ends two (2) inches to
three (3) inches deep shall be used or, alternatively, sealed
slip couplers may be used.
(e) All conduit locations shall be accurately plotted
from the curb face .

(f) Where conduit is laid in advance of the cable to
be housed in it, polypropylene, polyethylene, nylon rope or
other non-deteriorating type of pull line shall be inserted
at the time of laying to facilitate the later laying of mes-
senger wire (to pull the actual cable) .
(g) In undeveloped areas or areas where changes of land-
marks are expected to occur, 16 to 19GA copper wire shall be
buried with the conduit, with the ends exposed at each vault
or pedestal location in order to facilitate the exact loca-
tion of the buried conduit run.
3. All new CATV cable installations shall conform with the
above specifications and the following: Where individual ducts
are laid, colored plastic shall be used to form a color oriented
duct system to facilitate identification of the cables they con-
tain or other method of identification using continuous marking
of duct .
4. Each cable shall be installed in a separate conduit
except as a final drop to the individual subscriber' s building.
5. Each run of cable is to be placed in a separate run of
conduit.
6. Underground vaults and boxes for electronic components
of the installed system shall be used with:
(a) The covers fitted securely and flush to the
ground.
(b) The covers colored to match the surrounding area.
(c) All covers approved by the Underground Utilities
Commission prior to installation.

Clerk of the City of Huntington Beach, and ex-officio Clerk of the
City Council of said City, do hereby certify that the whole number of
members of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach is seven;
that the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the affirmative
vote of more than a majority of all the members of said City Council
at a regular meeting thereof held on the 2nd day
of August 1976 by the following vote:
