HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 4526 it RESOLUTION NO. 4526 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION BUDGET WHEREAS, the State Department of Transportation (Cal Trans) has prepared and is considering the adoption of a six-year spend- ing program which would continue the trend toward denying Orange County its rightful share of highway revenues; and The population of Orange County contributes approximately 8. 8 percent of the state' s total gas tax revenues; and Cal Trans' six-year highway spending program anticipates spending within Orange County during the next six years a paltry 2. 6 percent of its gas tax revenues ; and Orange County has great need for new state highway facili- ties, reconstruction and rehabilitation of existing highways, operational and safety improvements , sound walls and sound I landscaping throughout the county; and Orange County' s total share of the 6. 4 billion dollar bud- get for the next six years is 165 million dollars or 2. 6 percent of the total, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach hereby expresses its concern over the state ' s budget proposal and opposes said proposal until a more equitable share of highway dollars is allocated to Orange County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby di- rected to transmit a copy of this resolution to the California Department of Transportation.
