HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 4843 RESOLUTION NO . 4843 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO ADOPT AN EMERGENCY MEASURE TO REQUIRE RETAIL FOOD STORES TO INDICATE PRICES OF COMMODITIES ON INDIVIDUAL PACKAGES WHEREAS , state legislation which required grocery stores to display the prices of commodities clearly on individual packages expired December 31 , 1979; and This requirement protected the consumer by providing a yard- stick whereby the consumer could shop comparatively; and Where items are not individually marked, the consumer has no assurance that the price quoted is , in fact , proper and in line with current costs ; and Inasmuch as the householder spends one-third of his budget on food, in these days of rampant inflation it is doubly important that the consumer is not subjected to arbitrary pricing practices , NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach that it does strongly urge the state Legislature to adopt an urgency measure to require retail food stores to indicate prices of specific commodities on all in- dividual packages . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to furnish copies of this resolution to appropriate representatives in the Legislature , the Orange County Board of Supervisors , and the Department of Consumer Affairs .
