HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 4997 RESOLUTION NO. 4997 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH REQUESTING CALTRANS TO PROHIBIT PARKING AND INSTALL A MEDIAN BARRIER ON PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY WHEREAS, from 1970 to 1980 there have been 1,649 traffic accidents and twenty-nine traffic fatalities on Pacific Coast Highway between Warner Avenue and the Bolsa Chica bluffs (mile- post 27. 0) , and between Beach Boulevard and the Santa Ana River; and The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach deems im- mediate traffic safety improvements necessary to reduce the number of serious traffic accidents on Pacific Coast Highway, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach as follows : CALTRANS is requested, in accordance with the provisions of the California Vehicle Code section 22507 and Huntington Beach Municipal Code sections 10.40.050(d) and 10.40. 240, to establish a "no parking and no stopping zone" on the ocean side of Pacific Coast Highway between Warner Avenue and milepost 27 .0 and on both sides of Pacific Coast Highway between Beach Boulevard and the southerly city limits . CALTRANS is further requested to install a median barrier on Pacific Coast Highway between Beach Boulevard and the Santa Ana River as an interim measure to reduce the possibility of head-on collisions .
