A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTINGTON BEACH URGING A YES VOTE ON THE 1980
STATE WATER ACT (SENATE BILL 200) APPEARING ON
THE JUNE 8 , 1982 BALLOT
WHEREAS, it is necessary that the State of California and
all its residents develop a conscientious program of water con-
servation; and
Fish and wildlife of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta are
being destroyed by present methods of pumping water from the
delta; and
The Metropolitan Water District which supplies most of
Southern California, will lose 600,000 acre feet of its Colorado
River water allotment in the mid 1980 ' s due to the 1963 United
States Supreme Court decision in Arizona vs . California; and
The Peripheral Canal , as authorized under the 1980 State
Water Act, will help replace the lost Colorado River water on which
Southern California now depends ; and
The cost of the Peripheral Canal, as authorized by the 1980
State Water Act , is $1 . 4 billion, and such Act was approved by
the state Legislature, signed by the Governor in 1980 as Senate
Bill 200 , and must now gain voter approval in the next statewide
election; and
The 1980 State Water Act is a comprehensive water development
and water conservation measure which includes wastewater reclama-
tion programs , and is designed to meet the water needs of every
region of California while providing unprecedented environmental
protection,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Huntington Beach that it does endorse the 1980 State
Water Act (Senate Bill 200) , and urges the California electorate

to vote YES on such measure appearing on the June 8 , 1982 ballot.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 19th
