HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 5125 RESOLUTION NO. 5125 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH REQUESTING LOCATION OF UNITED STATES CUSTOMS AND IPM'IIGRATION SERVICES AT ONTARIO AIRPORT WHEREAS, Los Angeles International Airport is the sole ter- minal in southern California accommodating overseas commercial flights; and Such airport is in a heavily developed area and has become overcrowded so that persons who must use its facilities are greatly inconvenienced by having to travel excessive distances and wait countless hours for service; and The growth of industry and tourism in eastern Los Angeles County, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and San Diego Counties is showing some of the most accelerated gains in the nation; and Ontario Airport is easily accessible from the counties men- tioned above, and could handle the overflow from Los Angeles, pro- viding relief from impacted freeway travel, costly use of fuel, as well as saving passengers and other persons valuable time; and Ontario Airport is presently used as a point of diversion when Los Angeles Airport has been closed down to air travel because of poor weather conditions ; and The 1984 Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles, and the influx of national and international visitors to this area could be handled more easily and better served with additional airport facilities, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach that it hereby urges its representatives to the Congress to make every effort to obtain approval for lo- cating United States Customs and Immigration Services at Ontario Airport in order that flights originating outside the United States a hb 5/19/82 1. Customs and Immigration Services jurisdictions may be accommodated at such airport.
