HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 5355 RESOLUTION NO. 5355 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH REQUESTING THE TALBERT CHANNEL OCEAN OUTLET REMAIN DIRECTLY ADJACENT TO THE SANTA ANA RIVER MOUTH WHEN RIVER IS WIDENED BY THE SANTA ANA RIVER FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers is studying the Santa Ana River Flood Control Project to widen and improve the Santa Ana River; and The Corps of Engineers ' recommended plan is to retain the Talbert Channel ocean outlet directly adjacent to the Santa Ana River when the mouth of the river is widened; and The County of Orange Environmental Management Agency has asked the Corps of Engineers to consider relocation of the Talbert Channel ocean outlet closer to Brookhurst Street ; and Such relocation would cause loss of substantial beach rec- reation area; would reduce the size of the wetland area parallel to the channel currently available to accommodate channel over- flow; would present larger environmental obstacles; and be far more costly than the Corps of Engineers ' recommended plan, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach that it hereby requests the Corps of Engineers to design the Santa Ana River Flood Control Project so that the Talbert Channel ocean outlet remains directly adjacent to the Santa Ana River mouth to minimize impacts on Huntington State Beach.
