HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 5366 RESOLUTION NO. 5366 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH URGING A COOPERATIVE EFFORT REL- ATIVE TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA'S WATER SUPPLY AND DEMAND WHEREAS, future water demand in Orange County and Southern California will require the development of additional water re- sources to ensure that a dependable and reliable water supply is maintained; and The Supreme Court has ruled that Southern California' s water supply from the Colorado River will be significantly reduced in 1985; and The Governor of the State of California, recognizing the critical need for effective management , distribution and develop- ment of California's water supply, identified seven water goals in his 1984 State-of-the-State Address ; including: Water conservation and salvaging of wasted water Protection of water quality Additional facilities to store surplus water under- ground and in offstream reservoirs Interconnecting water systems Fish and wildlife protection Respecting areas-of-origin water rights; and Developing technology to expand water supplies. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach that it hereby urges cooperation among the seven Southern California counties of Imperial, Los Angeles , Orange , Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura; cities within such counties; businesses and water agencies to declare their commitment to the same seven goals in order to achieve a cooperative effort designed to develop a positive regional pro- ahb 3/21/84 1. gram to address Southern California's water supply and demand requirement , develop a positive regional program to promote ad- ditional water supplies into Southern California, and assist in the development of a statewide consensus as to management and distribution of California' s water. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 2nd day of April 1984 .
