A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUPPORTING CALIFORNIA AS-
SEMBLY CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT NO. 7 RELATING
TO ELECTIONS
WHEREAS, existing provisions of the California Constitution
provide that judicial, school, county, and city offices shall
be nonpartisan; and
Existing case law authorizes a political party or a party
central committee to endorse, support, or oppose a candidate
for nonpartisan office; and
Assemblyman Richard Mountjoy has introduced Assembly
Constitutional Amendment No. 7, relating to elections that:
(a) Judicial, school, county, and city offices shall be
nonpartisan; and
(b) No political party or party central committee may
endorse, support, or oppose a candidate for nonpartisan office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Huntington Beach that it unreservedly supports Assembly
Constitutional Amendment No. 7, as proposed by Assemblyman
Richard Mountjoy.
FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to
send copies of this resolution to appropriate members of the
California Legislature and the California League of Cities.-
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at an adjourned regular meeting thereof held
on the 6th day of August, 1985.

that the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the affirmative
vote of more than a majority of all the members of said City Council
at a regular adjourned meeting thereof held on the 6th day
