A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH ADOPTING THE WEEK OF
OCTOBER 19, 1987 THROUGH OCTOBER 24, 1987
AS WATER AWARENESS WEEK
WHEREAS, water is California 's most precious natural
u f he health and welfare of its people, and for the
resource or t he 1 r p p ,
state ' s continued economic growth; and
WHEREAS, water also provides Californians with recreation
and beauty as well as enhances fish and wildlife habitats; and
WHEREAS, water agencies throughout California serve the
public by delivering water from the watershed to homes,
industry, and farms at an affordable price; and
WHEREAS, Orange County is a semi-arid region relying
primarily on imported water supplies to serve three-quarters of
the needs generated by its 2 .1 million residents; and
WHEREAS, Orange County and Southern California may be faced
• with a water shortage in the near future as a result of: (1)
unpredictable annual hydrologic conditions throughout
California; and (2 ) permanent reductions in historical
entitlements to the Colorado River; and
WHEREAS, water agencies in Orange County and Southern
California have been and continue to be in the forefront in
developing innovative water conservation strategies and
encouraging efficient use of water; and
WHEREAS, all Orange County water agencies support and
encourage programs to educate and inform the public on the
status and developments concerning water supplies vital to
Southern California, and

WHEREAS, during the week of October 19, the City of
Huntington Beach Water Department, in cooperation with the
California Water Awareness Committee composed of various urban
and agricultural water communities, will work to increase
understanding of how quality water is delivered to the people
of California;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that The City of Huntington
Beach Water Department, does proclaim October 19-24 , 1987 as
Water Awareness Week and urge all citizens to join in
supporting local water agencies in their efforts to help
Californians be water aware.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at the regular meeting thereof held on the
2 1 s t day of September 1987 .

vote of more than a majority of all the members of said City Council
