HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 6039 RESOLUTION NO. 6039 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH REQUESTING THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO INCLUDE WITHIN THE TRANSPORTATION DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM (SB 140) THE IMPROVEMENT OF WALNUT AVENUE WHEREAS, the City of Huntington Beach desires to improve Walnut Avenue between Lake Street and Beach Boulevard; and Walnut Avenue is an important artery in the City of Huntington Beach and of general County interest; and Senate Bill 140 has established the Transportation Demonstration Program whereby cities can apply for funding assistance for highway projects . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach hereby requests the State of California Department of Transportation to allocate to said city from State funds the amount of $675, 000, said amount to be matched by funds from said city, to be used to aid said city in the improvement of Walnut Avenue between Lake Street and Beach Boulevard, said improvements to be in accordance with the attached project statement. Mayor ATTEST: APPROVED AS TO FORM: A-a City Clerk 6 - City Attorney REVIEWED AND APPROVED: INITIATED AND APPROVED: 1 City Administrator Director of Public Works -2- Res 6039 PROJECT STATEMENT WALNUT AVENUE BETWEEN LAKE STREET AND BEACH BOULEVARD The construction of Walnut Avenue, between Lake Street and Beach Boulevard (0.75 miles) is being submitted to the State of California, Transportation Demonstration Program for inclusion in the Fiscal Year 1989/90 SB 140 Program. This program has $300 million of Restoration Funds available for Orange County cities. Walnut Avenue will serve as an important artery in the City of Huntington Beach and an alternative route to Pacific Coast Highway. The city will fund its share of the project with Redevelopment funds. PSN:ln Res 6039 Res.
