HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 6128 RESOLUTION NO. 6128 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH DECLARING VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, in 1989 , more than forty-thousand crime victims and witnesses to crime were referred to the Orange County Victim/Witness Assistance Program; and Victims of crime and their loved ones often face severe financial, physical, and psychological injury; and An effective and fair criminal justice system must recognize the rights of victims and balance them with those of the accused; and It is important that all citizens of Orange County increase their awareness of the needs of victims and the valuable services available to assist them; and To fight the continuing threat of crime and victimization, all citizens must join together, committing their individual and collective resources to crime prevention and victim services; and The observance of Victims ' Rights Week highlights the problems faced by victims and the responsibility of all citizens to respond to the special needs of victims P ct s and their families; - 1 - NOW, THEREFORE, Mayor Thomas Mays, Mayor of the City of Huntington Beach is hereby authorized to proclaim April 22-28, 1990 as Victims ' Rights Week and urge all citizens to join in this most important observance.
