HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 6449 RESOLUTION NO. 6449 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH TO ADOPT AND AMEND THE CITY CLASSIFICATION PLAN WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to amend the City Classification Plan, and The provisions of Personnel Rule 12-4 have been complied with, according to the official minutes of the Personnel Commission on file with the Commission secretary, and the City Council wishes to adopt the amendment recommended by the Personnel Commission therein, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby resolve as follows : The City Classification Plan is hereby amended to include the classification reflected herein below: New Classification Claims Examiner - Exhibit "A" All other provisions of the Classification Plan shall remain the same. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Reviews industrial injury/illness reports on city employees; interviews and corresponds with employees, witnesses, physicians and attorneys; reviews police reports and hospital records; coordinates with Claims Supervisor in indemnifying employee safety exposures and necessary loss prevention measures; adjusts all aspects of workers' compensation claims; establishes reserves for claim exposures and ensures that changes in claims reserve levels are documented and accurate; monitors claim progress; reviews a variety of claim file documents; identifies issues and ensures adherence to statutory requirements in processing claims; performs other job duties as required. .KNOWLEDGES AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: workers' compensation rules, regulations and fundamental case law; medical terminology, diagnoses and procedures; benefit rates and calculations. Skill in: Oral and written communications; organization and review of a variety of claim file documents; effective working relationships with all departments and employees; use of computer and automated database. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience One year directly related worker's compensation claims examination. Certification/License Insurance Education Association certification in workers' compensation. Valid California driver' s license. RECLASSIFICATION REQUIREMEN7 Eligible to reclassify to Claims Examiner Senior upon completion of two years experience as Claims Examiner and possession of a California Self Insured certificate in worker's compensation and approval of the Department Head.
