F A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL O THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH SUPPORTING STATE OF CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 172 WHICH PLACES A HALF-CENT SALES TAX RATE IN THE STATE'S CONSTITUTION THAT WOULD BE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 1994. WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach supports the need to continue an adequate level of public safety to maintain the highest quality of life for our residents and WHEREAS, all local services are at risk due to the fiscal crisis facing each level of government in California; and WHEREAS, city support of the fiscal health of counties is critical in order to ensure that local government continues to provide the services which benefit all Californians; and WHEREAS, it is critical for the passage of the sales tax continuation that local government officials, the business community, community organizations, and all of our citizens join together to support this proposal; and WHEREAS, both short and long term solutions are necessary to allow for the reform of State and local government governance and financing; NOW BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach supports the extension of the half-cent sales tax and commits to provide the necessary leadership to bring about long-term fiscal and governance reform to ensure a healthy and prosperous City and State of California. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 4th day of October , 1993.
